Coefficient of Friction
The coefficient of friction (COF) is determined by the ease with which two surfaces slide against each other. The dimensionless value of the COF is the ratio of the force required to slide the surfaces to the force perpendicular to the surfaces. A lower COF indicates that the surfaces are slicker—i.e., there is less resistance to the sliding motion.
Motion Mat® is manufactured using a formulation containing an ultra-high molecular weight siloxane polymer dispersed in HIPS polymer. It’s designed to impart benefits such as processing improvements and modification of surface characteristics an ultra-high molecular weight siloxane as dispersion. When added to polystyrene improved processing and flow of the resin is achieved, including less extruder torque, internal lubrication, and faster throughput. At levels used in Motion Mat sheets, improved surface properties are achieved, including lubricity, slip, lower coefficient of friction, and greater mar and abrasion.
